Authorship Criteria
Journal of Information Systems and Informatics (JournalISI) follows internationally recognized standards for authorship and contributorship to ensure transparency, accountability, and integrity in scholarly publishing. The journal adheres to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and uses the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) system to define individual contributions.
1. Criteria for Authorship
Authorship should be based on the following four criteria (adapted from ICMJE recommendations):
- Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
- Drafting the work or reviewing it critically for important intellectual content; AND
- Final approval of the version to be published; AND
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
All individuals who meet these four criteria should be listed as authors. Individuals who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section instead of being listed as authors.
2. Contributor Roles (CRediT Taxonomy)
JournalISI requires authors to specify their individual contributions using the CRediT taxonomy. The following roles may be used:
- Conceptualization
- Methodology
- Software
- Validation
- Formal Analysis
- Investigation
- Resources
- Data Curation
- Writing – Original Draft
- Writing – Review & Editing
- Visualization
- Supervision
- Project Administration
- Funding Acquisition
A short Author Contributions statement must be included in the manuscript (this is mandatory).
3. Corresponding Author Responsibilities
The corresponding author is responsible for:
- Ensuring that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria
- Managing communication with the journal during submission, peer review, and publication
- Ensuring that all authors have approved the final version of the manuscript
- Handling post-publication inquiries
4. Changes to Authorship
Changes to the list of authors (addition, removal, or reordering) after manuscript submission are only permitted under the following conditions:
- A clear written justification is provided
- Written consent is obtained from all authors (including those being added or removed)
- The change is approved by the Editor-in-Chief
Requests for authorship changes after acceptance or publication will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and may require an official correction notice.
5. Prohibited Practices
JournalISI strictly prohibits the following practices:
- Gift authorship: Including individuals as authors who did not make a significant intellectual contribution
- Ghost authorship: Excluding individuals who made significant contributions from the author list
- Guest authorship: Including senior or well-known researchers solely to increase the chances of acceptance
6. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Authorship
Artificial Intelligence tools (including generative AI such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and similar systems) cannot be listed as authors. AI tools do not meet the criteria for authorship because they cannot take responsibility for the work or provide final approval.
Any use of AI tools in the preparation of the manuscript must be clearly disclosed in accordance with the journal’s Ethics Statement. AI-generated content must not exceed 25% of the total manuscript.
7. Dispute Resolution
In cases of authorship disputes, the Editorial Board will follow COPE guidelines. Authors may be asked to provide additional documentation regarding their contributions. The Editor-in-Chief holds the final authority in resolving authorship-related matters.
